A First Engineer is in charge of all engine maintenance, overseeing all machinery throughout the vessel- organising the work to be done and scheduling who on the team is the best for the job. In a 1st engineer job role, you will also take on the part of trainer for the rest of the maintenance crew, as well as working with new trainees to help them begin their own maritime engineering careers.
As a chief marine engineer, you could work on a range of vessels from cargo ships and large vessels to passenger cruises and superyachts.
