Olivia Experiences Monaco Yacht Show for the First Time

Meet Olivia Donnelly, Placement Assistant at Viking Crew. Olivia joined the team in November 2022 and works in the Placement Team, assisting with onboarding administration and is dedicated to helping crew find their perfect role.

Olivia recently attended the 2023 Monaco Yacht Show with our Placement Team. We sat down with her to find out more about her first experience of the industry-famous event.

How was your experience of the Monaco Yacht Show?

"When I first arrived, I was very taken aback. I wasn't expecting it to be so glamourous. There were so many different yachts, with different interiors and sizes. It was incredible. It was really lovely to meet new industry professionals and clients."

Did it meet your expectations?

"MYS absolutely exceeded my expectations, especially as it was my first time attending. I didn't expect there to be as many stands and companies there, from lighting services to yacht toys. It really opened to my eyes to how many companies are involved in the yachting industry and offer products or services in this sector. It was really immersive - so much to see and people to talk to."

What was your favourite yacht that you saw at MYS?

"My favourite yacht that I saw is the Calypso, a 61.5m motor yacht built by the Dutch shipyard, Amels. I really liked the interior, which was styled by Michael Leach."

How did you find interviewing candidates face-to-face for your first in-person recruitment event?

"I really enjoyed conducting the interviews in Monaco and Antibes with candidates. It was fantastic to meet them in person. I was able to get to know them really well and get a sense of their personality and whether they would be a good fit for our clients."

Why did you decide to work in the yacht recruitment industry?

"When I started working at Viking Crew, I was so intrigued by the whole yachting industry, the way it works and the recruitment process. I really enjoy speaking to people with different nationalities and hearing their passions and experience. It is such a great feeling when you place a candidate with a client and they start working onboard, it's very rewarding. I love placing the perfect crew with the right client."

What is your favourite part about working in the Yacht Placement Team at Viking Crew?

"I love interacting with candidates and staying in touch with them throughout the whole process, asking them how their flight was, if they arrived safely to the vessel, how they're feeling. I think it's great to go that extra mile and check in with them."
