Liam Steer
Maritime Safety Instructor

Liam has joined the Martine Skills Academy after an 11 year service in the Royal Navy as Able Seaman Specialist and moving up to Leading Seaman. He sailed on numerous Warships and Royal Fleet Auxiliary tankers across the world often in extreme weather. He has experienced storms in the North Sea and hurricanes in the Atlantic plus volatile operational theatres including Maritime Security / Anti-piracy Operations. As a Royal Navy advanced tactical coxswain Liam conducted sea boat operations critical to the successful delivery of both Counter-Narcotic and Counter-Piracy operations with other NATO forces. Most recently in his Royal Navy career Liam worked at the Joint Services Adventure Sail Training Centre as part of their Safety Equipment/ Fleet maintenance department. Bringing his vast RIB and rigid hulled vessel experience Liam is a great asset to our lifeboat training department. Liam’s safety cell qualifications and seamanship abilities along with standard Navy training enables him to also instruct on security, efficient deck hand, working at height, firefighting and manual handling courses. With the varied challenges Liam has undertaken at sea he has quickly become an integral part of the training team here at the Maritime Skills Academy.
